Max Winthrop

Head of Employment Law.

Max Winthrop is a partner and head of the Employment Law Department at Short Richardson & Forth LLP having joined the firm in 1999. Noted by "Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession" as a leading practitioner in employment, Max is described in the 2006 edition as "extremely capable".

Max regularly presents cases in the Employment Tribunal, predominantly for Respondent's and has appeared as Advocate in the EAT and has prepared cases as Instructing Solicitor in the Court of Appeal.

Before qualifying as a solicitor, Max spent six years with a London-based construction industry trade association dealing with industrial relations issues, then moved north to qualify as a solicitor completing articles at Burnetts in Carlisle. Employment cases have featured predominantly from the start of his career. From 1999, on joining Short Richardson & Forth LLP, Max has practiced exclusively in the fields of employment and discrimination.

Max is a member of ELA and a member of the Newcastle Employment Tribunal Users Committee.

Away from work Max is an enthusiastic climber and retains a fascination for early renaissance polyphony gained in a former existence as a music student.
