John is a leading author in the field of employment law and his publications include Business Transfers and Employee Rights, the leading work on TUPE. John’s practical experience in TUPE and all employment law matters is extensive. As well as being a writer and commentator on mergers and acquisitions he advises in the public and private sectors on the subject of staff transfers. This includes wide experience in mergers and acquisitions, outsourcing, franchising and complex restructuring. In the context of public sector transfers he has considerable experience of intra public sector transfers, central and local government contracting for services and PFI/PPP transactions. He is versed in all aspects of employment law and is lauded by clients for being able to translate the law into laymen’s terms and “getting the deal done”. He is regarded as the country’s leading expert on TUPE
Additionally, John is the author of many other works in the field of employment law, including Butterworths Employment Law Guide, Acquired Rights of Employees, Aspects of Employment Law and Tolley's Employment Law. He is a contributor to the Jordans/CIPD Employment Law Manual and has contributed the chapter on transfers to Tolley’s Personnel Practice and Procedures. He is also the editor of Redundancy: Law and Practice (2nd Edition) and Working Time: Law and Practice published in both cases by Sweet & Maxwell
John is commended in international directories as a leading employment lawyer including PLC Which Lawyer, The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers and the Euromoney Expert Guide to the World’s Leading Labour and Employment Lawyers. John is a member of the Council of the Advisory Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS), a part-time professor of Labour Law at the University of Leeds and is a member of the Editorial Board of Harvey on Industrial Relations and Employment Law.
He is particularly experienced in international employment law and practice, including cross border mergers and acquisitions, transnational outsourcing, restructuring and European and national information and consultation procedures and agreements.
John is also a leading lawyer in the Higher Education field.
